Word For The Year

1/1/2018

There's a thing I've done for the past several years that helps me throughout the year. It's called One Word.  You pick a word for the year that you want to focus on.  Some common words include faith, love, service, doing, giving, etc. You can see where I'm going with this, right?

Last year, I was so stressed and had so many different things on  my mind, I forgot to pick a word. However, one picked me.  Breathe. So many times, I just had to sit back and breathe. Hubby's health issues...just breathe. Car issues...just breathe. Mom's health issues...just breathe. Church issues...just breathe. Computer issues...just breathe. Writing issues...just breathe.

Taking a step back and breathing gave me a chance to think clearer. To see that things weren't as bad as they seemed and could be worse. Breathing gave me a chance to center myself before flying off the handle and making things worse.

I haven't picked a word for this year. I've several in mind but I will continue to breathe.

What about you? Ever picked a word for the year? Want to share what it is, if you have?

Sometimes it takes a while to figure it out. I have some goals to deal with too. :-)

I love to choose a word or short phrase for the year, this year my choice is action. I tend to do more learning than actual doing, so this year I have to take the next step. Happy 2018.

Learning is good but sometimes you gotta put some feet on that knowledge. My pastor is using the Greek word for DO...which I forget what it is and am too lazy to look up. :-)

Same here! I didn't choose it...it chose me...breathe. I'm always surprised to find myself taking these deep breathes to get through the current mini-crisis.

I take those deep breaths often too. Even when not stressed, it helps me to center myself.

Just a good word to use at times of stress. Just BREATHE!!! I've not chosen a Word for the Year - and probably won't, but I like the idea.

I have Breathe for my phone screens just to remind myself. I'm looking forward to this year's word.

That is something to think about. I will tell you my word later this week when I find out what it is.

Breathe is definitely a good one! I'll have to put some thought into this, although I have a few in mind.

Did you notice a movie was released this year called "Breathe"?
RELEASE - a word I have been pushed up against for this year.
I will embrace it in all aspects of my life. Hopefully not so tightly that I cannot let go of the things I will be trying to release.
#blogboost will be part of the commitment I will make to share some of my travel photos, and write a little about the adventures.
blog on!

Thanks for sharing! Breathe is an excellent word :-)

I typically pick a word, or a couple of words to focus on. This year it's Collaboration and Consistency.

In the past, I've had words like, "Accept" to remind me to accept that which I could not change. I've also used, "breathe in peace."

I missed the movie. But I'm not really a big movie person. Don't have enough time.

Release is a good word. Sorta like learning to say no...hard to do sometimes even though we need to.

I love this idea. I have adopted a vision board that incorporates what I want to focus on for the year, but I like the idea of picking just one word.

I need to look into vision boards. I've heard cool things about them. Maybe you can do a blog post on creating them. :-)

Last year, my word was Focus. Oddly enough, I lost focus on that. This year, my word is Prosperity.

I've lost focus on words a couple times. Is sorta why I'm waiting for the right word to sorta pick me. I'm playing with several choices, just waiting for the right one.
