Snow! That's right...cold, frozen, white bits of evil, falling from the sky.  That's what they say is going to happen in our area. Possibly 3 inches of the foul stuff. I'm hoping they are misinformed and we don't get any. In fact, I'm ready for summer and a trip to the beach.

Personally, I like snow. I like it to come, stay a day or two, then go away. And when we get snow here in our part of Texas, that's what it does.

Here's the problem. Most people in our area have no clue how to handle snow and ice. Just the mention of winter weather sends most everyone to the store  for milk, bread, cereal, poptarts, water, and all sorts of "emergency" rations.  And, that leaves the store shelves bare for at least a week for those of us who don't make the mad rush.

And driving...oh my. I think the drivers become even more dangerous. Look, white stuff on the road, let's see how fast we can go.  It's like they turn crazy. It's already scary driving here but most Texas drivers have no business on the road with snow and ice.

What about you? Are you involved in winter?  Are you enjoying it?

Oh...the snowman in the above picture was built by my kids about 7 years ago. And yep, in Texas, our snowmen wear cowboy hats.

Believe it or not, the same phenomenon exists in Portland, Oregon. The rest of the country laughs, but, truth be told, since we seldom get heavy snow and ice, our city infrastructure isn’t equipped and many drivers aren’t experienced or knowledgeable and need to stay off the road. That’s me and I do, even if I get mocked.

Our cities aren't equipped to handle it either. And staying home is best if at all possible. Is what I plan to do. :-)

Haha! Thanks for the laugh. After moving from Boston to L.A and then Houston, any hint of cold weather or rain, and people became helpless..haha! I remember well :-)

My hubby is from Chicopee!!! He misses the winter sometimes. But yeah, people here freak over the mention of snow or ice. Have a great week!

James and I lived in Denver CO in the 80s. I’m with you. One day of pretty snow—then go away!

I enjoyed your post. I live in Pennsylvania where people know how to drive in the snow and how to treat the roads. For about six years my husband, youngest daughter and I lived in Tacoma WA between the ocean and the mountains. The weather was mild and the area didn't get much snow. My husband and I would have a good laugh whenever they did get any amount of snowfall. Something that we would have just kept on with our lives, brought that area to a standstill. They had only a few snow removal equipment and the stores and schools would shut down. There are not a few days since we moved back to PA that I wonder why we did it. I am not a snow person.

Ah, I grew up in Tacoma, WA. We got snow, but it was wet, slushy, ugly. I don't like the cold. It's why I moved to Texas. So if we only get one snow day in here, I'm okay with that. Otherwise, cease and desist!
